A range of sustainable technologies have come into existence the last 30 years. Many huge corporations today are creating turnover by selling wind turbines, solar thermal equipment or car sharing services to their customers. Many politicians are proud that they fostered the creation of large sustainable markets by introducing specific regulation like the German Renewable Energy Sources Act. Hundreds of thousands of employees are working in the sector supplying technologies for renewable energy, energy efficiency or sustainable water. But where did it all begin?
