The issue of how start-ups finance their sustainable innovation processes has not yet been explored exhaustively. In this paper, empirical “work-in-progress” on access to finance and public funding for sustainable start-ups is presented. In a two-stage research process, exploratory interviews with start-ups in Finland, Germany and Sweden are first carried out – and presented in this paper – before a large-scale survey is distributed in the three countries.
