Roadmap “Resource-efficient workplace computer solutions 2020: Developing a lead market for Green Office Computing”

Resource consumption, the resulting emissions and waste disposal increa-singly cause environmental as well as social and economic problems. Improving resource efficiency, therefore, is becoming an issue in policy-making as well.

Against this background, the German Federal Ministry for the Environ-ment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) have entrusted a total of 31 project partners with the research project "Material Efficiency and Resource Conservation" (MaRess).

The Borderstep Institute has compiled a "roadmap" for workplace compu-ters until 2020 in this context, which forecasts the developments in the next decade and includes concrete scenarios and policy recommendations.

A summary of the Roadmap, published by Germany’s IT association BITKOM, is available
Further information on the MaRess project terminated in December 2010 can be found on our Project Overview (in German) or on the Wuppertal Institute website.
